Memphis, TN – On Tuesday, the 6th Memphis Police Officer involved in the death of Tyre Nichols was suspended from duty. The incident occurred in December 2020 when officers were called to the scene of a domestic dispute. When they arrived, they found Tyre Nichols, a 26-year-old Black man, and attempted to arrest him.
Eyewitness News ABC7NY reported that the 6th officer involved in the incident was relieved of duty. Video footage of the arrest has since been released and has reignited calls for police reform.
The Memphis Grizzlies have also responded to the incident, releasing a statement saying they want to help the city heal.
Roy S. Johnson, a columnist for AL.com, wrote an article condemning the “skinfolk” who brutally killed Tyre Nichols and called for an end to policing that is rooted in racism.
The tragic death of Tyre Nichols has created a wave of grief and anger throughout the Memphis community. As the investigation continues, the public remains hopeful for justice.
