Israeli officials have identified the seven victims of a deadly terror shooting at a Jerusalem synagogue on Tuesday morning. They include a 14-year-old boy, a sexton at the synagogue, and five other men ranging in age from 59 to 86.
The attack, which left two other people wounded, was carried out by a Palestinian gunman who was shot and killed by a police officer. The gunman was later identified as a 13-year-old from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber.
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed a “strong and fast” response, and has called on citizens not to take the law into their own hands.
Israeli police have since arrested 42 people in connection with the attack, including the gunman’s family members.
The attack has been widely condemned by international leaders and organizations, with many calling for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. New York Daily News has reported that the “Jerusalem murder can’t kill peace: Terrorism will fail and only negotiation will succeed.”
The attack is the latest in a series of recent incidents that have further strained relations between Israelis and Palestinians.
