QUEENS, NY – Tragedy struck in a residential neighborhood in Queens when a 3-year-old boy was fatally hit by a driver who then fled the scene, local authorities confirmed.
On the evening of Wednesday, in the heart of Flushing, a community was placed under the shadow of a heart-wrenching incident. Young Quintas Chen, who lived just moments away from where the accident took place, was struck by a vehicle described as a white 2014 Infinity Q50 sedan. The child had been playing near his home on Sanford Avenue, a street usually bustling with the innocent laughter of children.
As investigators pieced together eyewitness accounts, it became clear that the driver was pulling out of a parking spot on 41st Avenue near College Point Boulevard when the young boy unexpectedly darted out into the street and was hit by the car as it was reversing. In a panic or cold calculation, the driver sped away without stopping to render aid or to await authorities.
Despite the responsive action of emergency services, who swiftly transported Quintas to NY Presbyterian Hospital, the severe injuries he sustained proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly upon arrival. The dedication of the medical staff was a somber note in an event that shocked the community and has left the family bereft.
The local law enforcement officials, as they pursued leads and enlisted the assistance of the community, found the suspect’s vehicle abandoned mere blocks from the grim scene. This development kick-started the next phase of what is sure to be a relentless investigation in the pursuit of justice.
As of now, there have been no arrests made, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the quest for answers continues. This incident has prompted renewed calls for increased traffic safety measures in residential areas to safeguard the lives of the neighborhood’s youngest and most vulnerable residents.
