Alabama Couple Arrested for Alleged Blowtorch Child Abuse

ALEVILLE, AL – A couple from Alabama is facing serious charges after being accused of using a blowtorch to inflict severe burns on young children. The suspects, identified as Ashleigh Ableman, 27, and Howard Anderson, 53, were arrested on Thursday evening. Each has been charged with one count of torture/willful abuse of a child.

The charges stem from allegations involving Ableman’s three children, all of whom are under the age of 12. The Dale County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation into the couple after receiving a tip from a concerned neighbor. The neighbor’s initial report of a suspicious person led to a broader inquiry into potential child abuse.

Upon executing a search warrant at the couple’s residence on October 8, deputies discovered evidence suggesting that the children had been subjected to punishment using a blowtorch. Further investigation revealed signs of ongoing abuse. According to authorities, the children had been burned multiple times with the blowtorch.

Lieutenant Caroline Jackson of the Dale County Sheriff’s Office shared some details of the case, stating that the children had made certain disclosures. She noted that there were visible signs of abuse on the children, describing the situation as a clear case of torture.

Ableman and Anderson are currently being held in custody without bail. The investigation into the alleged abuse is ongoing, with further details expected to be released as the case progresses.
