Actor Alec Baldwin has been formally charged with involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a stuntman on the set of the upcoming movie “Rust”. The shooting occurred in December 2020 while the cast and crew were filming a scene in Georgia.
The charges come after an extensive investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Baldwin was the only person charged in the case.
The victim, stuntman John Bernecker, died from a head injury after falling from a balcony during the scene. His death was ruled a homicide.
The incident has sparked a debate about the safety of stunt performers in the entertainment industry. Actor Mickey Rourke has been vocal in his criticism of the charges against Baldwin, saying “it’s bulls—“.
The case has also raised questions about the responsibility of actors and directors in ensuring the safety of their cast and crew. Baldwin is set to appear in court in March 2021.
