OCALA, FL – A Florida man is facing serious charges after allegedly attacking an Amazon delivery driver in a dispute over speeding through his neighborhood, according to local authorities. Dana Hilliker, 37, is charged with burglary with assault or battery by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The altercation occurred on Sunday on North West Gainesville Road in Ocala, approximately 40 miles south of Gainesville. Hilliker reportedly accosted the Amazon driver while he was delivering a package, leading to a confrontation that involved physical aggression.

According to the affidavit, Hilliker’s anger was triggered by the speed of the delivery vehicle as it moved through the neighborhood. At the time, Hilliker was on his motorcycle with his son and claimed the speeding van posed a threat to their safety. He allegedly attempted to flag down the driver, shouting at him to reduce speed, yet the van continued on its route.

Sheriff’s reports indicate that when his verbal warnings were ignored, Hilliker allegedly escalated the situation by physically blocking the van’s path and subsequently attempting to enter the vehicle. Reports state he grabbed the driver’s side door and then reached for the driver, scratching his arms and legs.

The driver defended himself by striking Hilliker multiple times in an attempt to release his grip, according to the arrest documentation. Hilliker claims that he latched onto the vehicle only after being hit, contradicting the driver’s version of events.

Hilliker’s actions were documented by his wife, who took several photos of the incident. However, investigators noted that these images did not corroborate Hilliker’s account of only holding onto the mirror; instead, they showed his arms reaching inside the vehicle.

Body camera footage from deputies captured their discussion with Hilliker, who defended his actions by arguing for the need to confront the driver over speeding in the area. However, deputies pointed out that the driver was within his rights to deliver packages and that Hilliker’s approach was not permissible.

Following his arrest on Tuesday, Hilliker quickly posted bond, as per court records. He is scheduled to appear in court next month to address the charges.
