Army Officer Fatally Shot Four Times During Robbery Incident; Prime Suspect Killed in Karachi Encounter

Karachi, Pakistan – A tragic incident unfolded in Karachi as an army officer, Major Saad, was fatally shot four times during a robbery on March 31. The city was left in shock as the news of the officer’s passing spread throughout the community. The alleged prime suspect in the case, Altaf Bengali, was recently killed in an encounter with police officers from Karachi’s Baghdadi police station, as reported by sources.

The encounter took place in the narrow streets of Lyari’s Phool Patti Lane, where authorities were able to apprehend the suspect, who had a criminal record and was out on bail. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Asad Raza confirmed the connection between the deceased suspect and the case involving Major Saad. Furthermore, weapons were seized from the scene, and the suspect’s body was taken to Jinnah Hospital.

The suspect’s accomplice, Usman Mangal, was captured by SITE A police in a separate operation and was found in an injured state. Through his confession, authorities were able to link Altaf Bengali to the fatal robbery that claimed Major Saad’s life. The army officer had fought for his life for eight days at Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital after the attack near SITE B police station. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on April 8, leaving behind a wife and two children.

The incident has sparked concerns over the increasing street crimes in Karachi, prompting lawmaker Taha Ahmed Khan to submit a resolution in the Sindh Assembly seeking compensation for victims of such crimes. The resolution highlighted the alarming rate of street crimes in the city, with over 50 individuals losing their lives in such incidents since the beginning of the year. The community mourns the loss of Major Saad and calls for heightened security measures to ensure the safety of residents in Karachi.
