Arrest Made in Connection to Ocala Paddock Mall Shooting

OCALA, Fla. – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting at the Paddock Mall in Ocala last month. Albert Shell Jr., 39, was taken into custody by Ocala police officers in collaboration with the United States Marshals Service. The arrest comes after Shell allegedly shot and killed a man and injured a woman inside the mall on December 23, 2023.

The Ocala Police Department shared a body camera video showing the shirtless suspect being apprehended. In the video, the time stamp indicates that the arrest took place shortly before 2 a.m. on Monday. Shell now faces charges of premeditated first-degree murder and attempted premeditated first-degree murder.

Upon police arrival at the scene, 40-year-old David Nathaniel Barron was found dead inside the mall, and a woman was discovered with a gunshot wound to the leg. The injured woman was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover from her non-life-threatening injuries.
