Arrested: Wife and Sons Charged in Connection to Florida Dad’s 2021 Murder

Suwannee, FL – Two brothers and their mother were arrested last week in connection to the murder of their father, David Rainey, whose body was discovered in a canal in Suwannee. The Dixie County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrests on Friday. Cindy Rainey reported her husband missing in July 2021, stating that he had left their vacation rental after an argument and had not returned. Rainey’s body was found in the canal behind the rental on the same day he was reported missing. The sheriff’s office determined that Rainey had been stabbed multiple times before being dumped in the water.

After more than two years with no arrests, Cindy Rainey, along with her sons Bailey and Jack, were all charged with tampering with evidence and taken into custody. Cindy and Bailey were arrested in Bunnell, while Jack was arrested in Orlando. The three are currently being held without bond. It is unclear whether any of them are considered suspects in the actual murder of Rainey.

David Rainey’s obituary described his death as unexpected. He was a welder and mechanic for Ethos Energy and often traveled for work. The family had rented the house in Suwannee for a vacation when Rainey was killed.

The arrest of the family members comes after they had launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking donations for the boys’ future in lieu of flowers. The campaign raised $475 from six donors.

The Dixie County Sheriff’s Office has not released any further details about the case.
