Arrests Made in West Covina Liquor Store Clerk Killing, Suspects Tied to Gang

WEST COVINA, Calif. – Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the October killing of a liquor store clerk in West Covina, California. The victim, 34-year-old Karanvir Singh, was fatally shot at Big Bob’s Liquor store on Oct. 8th, in an incident that shocked the local community.

The arrests come after a 17-year-old juvenile was apprehended two days after the killing. An ongoing investigation led to the apprehension of 19-year-old Arturo Ornelas of Monterey Park and 18-year-old Ventura Vanegas of Alhambra, according to the West Covina Police Department.

Ornelas was taken into custody on Nov. 16th, and Vanegas was arrested on Dec. 7th, with both being booked on suspicion of murder, robbery, accessory to a crime, and conspiracy to commit a crime. Additionally, investigators believe that all three suspects are affiliated with the same criminal street gang.

Ornelas has been released on bond, while Vanegas is being held without bail, as confirmed in a news release by the West Covina Police Department.
