Assailant breaks hammer while beating two men outside Nebraska hotel then beats them with fire extinguisher

HENDERSON, NE – Authorities have arrested a Nebraska man accused of violently attacking two people outside a local motel late Tuesday night, leaving both victims hospitalized with injuries, and authorities searching for answers about what sparked the assault.

Deputies responded to a call around 11 p.m. at the Sun Motel in Henderson, about an hour west of Lincoln. When officers arrived, they found two men, ages 78 and 53, suffering from injuries resulting from a brutal beating, according to law enforcement records.

The older victim was discovered in his pickup truck with visible bleeding from his arm. The younger man, despite sustaining more severe wounds, was conscious and able to communicate with deputies. He reported that the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Roger Lee Abramson, attacked him with a hammer directly outside his motel room.

Authorities say Abramson struck the younger man between 10 and 15 times, targeting his head and left arm with the hammer, and did not stop until the weapon broke. After the hammer snapped, officers say Abramson taunted the victim by asking whether he was “dead yet,” then grabbed a fire extinguisher and continued the assault, striking him an additional six to eight times.

Both men were transported to a hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not been released, but officials noted the seriousness of their injuries at the scene. Investigators documented significant amounts of blood outside one of the motel rooms and located a shattered hammer nearby. The fire extinguisher, believed to have been used in the latter part of the attack, was found in the bed of a pickup truck parked outside.

Deputies detained Abramson at the scene without incident. He now faces felony charges, including second-degree assault, terroristic threats, and third-degree assault. Officials have not released any details about what may have prompted the attack and said no motive was included in the arrest affidavit.

As of Friday, Abramson remains in custody at York County Jail on a $200,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for the upcoming Wednesday.

The investigation into the violent incident is ongoing. Authorities continue to interview witnesses and review surveillance footage to gain further insight into the events leading up to the confrontation. No additional suspects are being sought in connection with the attack.
