Oakland, California – A widespread cellular outage was experienced by users of major carriers in the United States on Thursday, as reported by several network providers and tracked by outage monitoring website Downdetector.com.
According to Downdetector, the number of reported outages for AT&T peaked at 31,931 around 4:30 a.m. ET. The website collates status reports from various sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform.
In addition to AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile also reported more than 800 service outages on the platform. However, none of the network providers immediately responded to requests for comment from Reuters.
The cause and extent of the outages were not immediately clear, but the situation signified a major disruption for users across the country.
