The Royal Family will no longer be featured on Australian bank notes, as the country has decided to remove its ties to the British monarchy.
The Associated Press reported that the Reserve Bank of Australia announced on Tuesday that the $5 note will no longer feature the reigning British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
The BBC News reported that King Charles will not replace Queen Elizabeth on the new Australia $5 note.
Yahoo News reported that the central bank of Australia said that a new $5 note will be issued in October, featuring the same design as the current note but with a different portrait.
The Indian Express reported that the decision to remove the British royalty from the $5 note was long overdue.
Bloomberg reported that the new note will feature a portrait of the late Australian author and activist, Dame Mary Gilmore, and will also include a representation of the wattle, the national flower of Australia.
The move to remove the Royal Family from the bank notes is part of a larger effort to break ties with the British monarchy.
