Baltimore County Police Officers Identified in Fatal Exchange of Gunfire with Parkville Man

TOWSON, Md. – The Maryland attorney general’s independent investigation division revealed the identities of three Baltimore County police officers involved in a fatal shootout last Friday. The officers responded to a domestic disturbance call and exchanged gunfire with a Parkville man who ultimately died at the scene.

According to the state division responsible for investigating police shootings, two of the officers, identified as Langley and Burns, have been serving in the police department for 22 years, while a third officer, Schanberger, joined in 2015. All three officers are assigned to the Operations Bureau, as stated by the attorney general’s office.

The deceased, Arnel Martez Redfern, 52, was accused by county police of fatally shooting his wife, Maxine Redfern, 48, inside their Maple Avenue home in Parkville. The tragic incident occurred at around 11:30 p.m. when the officers arrived at the scene in response to the domestic disturbance call.

Notably, records show that Arnel Redfern had a past conviction for robbery with a deadly weapon, which legally precluded him from owning a firearm. Despite this, he was found to be in possession of a handgun at the time of the fatal shootout. The police department reported previous domestic abuse reports at the Redferns’ home, with the most recent incident occurring in October.

In the wake of Maxine Redfern’s killing, the Baltimore County executive office took action by forming a work group to provide support for domestic violence survivors. As the investigation continues, the AG’s office Independent Investigations Division is expected to release police body camera footage and issue its findings in a report.

This tragic event serves as a perturbing reminder of the prevalence and dangers of domestic violence, highlighting the need for continued efforts to address and prevent such incidents within communities.
