BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – A man has been arrested in connection with a double shooting in June, fueled by a belief that one of the victims was responsible for his father’s murder just an hour before. Derrick Coleman, 37, was taken into custody based on information provided by multiple individuals. According to arrest documents, these witnesses claimed that Coleman was responsible for the shooting deaths of Joseph Profit, 48, and Robin Hayes, 52, which occurred on June 27 on Townsley Street off Scenic Highway.

The arrest followed the shooting death of Coleman’s father, Derrick Thomas, 53, on Avenue J near Woodpecker Street. It was reported that Coleman believed Profit was the one responsible for his father’s murder. Adding credence to these claims, security footage from the vicinity of Townsley Street revealed Coleman wearing the same clothing he had been seen in just an hour prior on Avenue J.
