PORTLAND, Oregon – Bob Moore, the founder of Bob’s Red Mill food products, passed away at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of whole grain goodness.

Moore and his wife, Charlee, started Bob’s Red Mill in 1978 with a mission to promote whole grain diets. Their company now offers over 200 products, from whole wheat flour to grain-free brownie mix, and employs more than 700 people.

In 2010, on his 81st birthday, Moore transferred ownership of the company to his employees through an employee stock ownership plan, leaving a generous and lasting impact on the company’s future. He remained involved in the company until his death and was known for his commitment to unprocessed foods and high-quality ingredients.

After stepping down from his day-to-day duties at Bob’s Red Mill in 2018, Moore’s spirit continued to inspire the company. The current CEO, Trey Winthrop, emphasized Moore’s dedication to preserving the company’s commitment to wholesome, unprocessed foods and high-quality ingredients.

In addition to his contributions to the food industry, Moore and his wife made significant donations to Oregon State University to launch the Moore Family Center for Whole Grain Foods, Nutrition and Preventive Health. They also pledged $25 million to establish the Bob and Charlee Moore Institute for Nutrition & Wellness at Oregon Health & Science University.

Moore is survived by his three sons, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Details about a celebration of life are yet to be announced.
