WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Pentagon has initiated the deployment of 1,500 active duty troops to assist in securing the southern border, following through on plans outlined in executive orders issued by President Donald Trump shortly after taking office. The troops will play a variety of roles, including flying helicopters to aid Border Patrol agents, providing military airlift for deportation flights, and assisting in the construction of barriers, according to Acting Defense Secretary Robert Salesses.
