The Boston Bruins have made a splash before the NHL trade deadline, acquiring defensemen Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway from the Washington Capitals in a three-team deal.
The Bruins sent a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 second-round pick to the Capitals, while the New Jersey Devils sent forward prospect Yegor Sharangovich to the Capitals.
The Bruins have had one of the best defensive cores in the NHL this season, and the addition of Orlov and Hathaway makes them even stronger. Orlov is a two-time All-Star and has been a mainstay on the Capitals’ blue line for the past nine seasons. He has recorded 14 goals and 43 assists in 442 career NHL games.
Hathaway is a gritty, physical player who has recorded six goals and seven assists in 37 games this season. He is also a key contributor on the penalty kill and can provide a spark with his energy.
This trade gives the Bruins a great chance to make a deep run in the Stanley Cup playoffs, as they now have one of the deepest defensive cores in the NHL. With the addition of Orlov and Hathaway, the Bruins have solidified their spot as one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference.
