Boyfriend shoots 21-year-old South Carolina woman and leaves her 3-year-old little boy alone calling her name

INMAN, SC – A South Carolina man is facing murder charges after authorities say he shot and killed his girlfriend during a domestic argument, leaving her young son alone in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Jayvion Nyrek Rice, 19, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime following the death of Skyy Ernestasjah Logan, 21, according to court records. The shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on February 3 at a residence on Farm Creek Road, a quiet street in Inman located northwest of Charleston.

Deputies from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene after a 911 call was placed by Rice’s mother, who reported an accidental shooting inside the home. Upon arrival, law enforcement found Logan on the front porch suffering from a gunshot wound to her torso. Emergency crews transported her to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead later that night.

Investigators initially heard from Rice that the gun discharged by accident while he was handling it inside the home. However, further examination of the scene and the evidence led deputies to question his account. Officials say evidence contradicted Rice’s version of events and indicated that the incident followed a heated argument between Rice and Logan, who had been in a relationship.

Authorities determined that the couple’s dispute escalated before Rice allegedly fired the fatal shot. Logan’s 3-year-old son was present in the home at the time of the incident and was later found alone, reportedly calling out for his mother.

Rice was apprehended at the residence and taken into custody around 1 a.m. the following day. During his initial appearance in court on Wednesday, a judge informed him of the severity of the charges, noting that a conviction could result in a life sentence without parole.

During the bond hearing, prosecutors revealed that part of the shooting had been captured on video, providing a pivotal piece of evidence in the case. They emphasized the impact of the crime, highlighting the presence of Logan’s child during the ordeal and describing the scene captured on camera.

The court ultimately decided to deny bond, ordering Rice held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center until further notice. His next court date is set for April 16.

Authorities in Inman continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The incident has drawn attention to the dangers of domestic violence and has left a young child without his mother.
