California-Based Mr. Bungle Member Arrested in Connection to 1980s Bandmate’s Murder

CAPITOLA, Calif. – Theobald “Theo” Lengyel, a former member of the 80s experimental band Mr. Bungle, has been arrested in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani, who went missing in early December. The Capitola Police Department reported that Lengyel, 54, was booked into the Santa Cruz County jail on a first-degree murder charge.

Kamakaokalani, a 61-year-old resident of Capitola, was last seen on December 3, 2023, prompting a missing person investigation nine days later. Chief Andrew Dally of the Capitola Police Department revealed that Lengyel was taken into custody on Tuesday after an investigation led detectives to human remains in a wooded area in Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley, with assistance from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.

The identification of the human remains and their cause of death is pending DNA confirmation from the Contra County Coroner’s Office, police reported. Authorities did not disclose the method of death or the suspected location, but they are confident that the remains belong to Kamakaokalani.

It was not immediately known who reported Kamakaokalani missing, but an investigation was launched on December 12, after which it became evident that foul play was involved. The motive for the killing has not been disclosed by the police, and Lengyel remains incarcerated without bond. The case remains open and under investigation.

This is a developing story and more details may emerge as the investigation continues.
