Capitol Police Officer Dunn Endorsed by Former House Speaker for Maryland Congressional Race

Baltimore, Maryland – U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, a former House Speaker, voiced her endorsement for Harry Dunn, a former Capitol Police Officer, as he vies for the 3rd Congressional District seat in Maryland. In a statement released by Dunn’s campaign, Pelosi, a Democrat from California, commended Dunn for his bravery in safeguarding the Capitol Building during the violent events of January 6, 2021.

Having witnessed Dunn’s courage firsthand during the insurrection, Pelosi expressed her gratitude for his efforts in protecting the Capitol, defending the Constitution, and upholding democracy. As the head of the committee that Dunn testified before, Pelosi highlighted his strength and determination to share his experiences, emphasizing his commitment to serving the community.

Dunn, a 15-year veteran of the U.S. Capitol Police residing in Montgomery County, faces stiff competition in the Democratic primary with 21 opponents, including established lawmakers like state Sen. Sarah Elfreth and state Sen. Clarence Lam. Despite criticism for not living within the district he seeks to represent, Dunn, a Silver Spring native, maintains his ties to the community through family and church connections in the area.

With a significant lead in fundraising compared to his opponents, Dunn’s campaign has garnered $3.7 million in contributions and has been active in promoting his platform for progress and change in Maryland’s 3rd District. While his rivals have also raised substantial amounts, Dunn’s momentum and support from Pelosi demonstrate a shared vision for the future of the district and the state.

Pelosi’s endorsement serves as a milestone for Dunn, motivating him to continue advocating for working families, promoting democracy, and addressing critical issues affecting Marylanders. As the primary election approaches in May and the general election follows in November, Dunn’s campaign seeks to navigate through the challenges ahead with the determination and support necessary to secure victory and bring about positive change for the district and its residents.
