Category 4 Hurricane Beryl to Hit Windward Islands with “Extremely Dangerous” Force: Life-Threatening Winds and Storm Surges Expected

Miami, FL – Tropical cyclone Beryl is expected to intensify into a Category 4 hurricane as it approaches the Windward Islands early Monday, posing a significant threat of life-threatening winds and storm surges in the Caribbean, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The Windward Islands, including Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, and Martinique, are bracing for the impact of Beryl. The storm, currently located about 465 miles east-southeast of Barbados, has maximum sustained winds of around 85 mph and is moving west at a pace of 20 mph.

Beryl is forecasted to pass over the Windward Islands late Sunday night and Monday, with hurricane warnings issued for Barbados, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. Residents in these areas are urged to prepare for hurricane conditions beginning Sunday night.

The National Hurricane Center warns of the potential for devastating wind damage in the path of Beryl’s eyewall across the Windward Islands. Additionally, storm surges could raise water levels by 5 to 7 feet above normal tide levels, accompanied by destructive waves along the coast.

Barbados and the Windward Islands could experience 3 to 6 inches of rainfall, leading to the risk of flooding in some areas. Parts of southeastern Puerto Rico may also see 1 to 4 inches of rain as the storm progresses.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and may issue additional warnings and watches for the region in the coming days. The potential impact of Beryl on the Caribbean region is a cause for concern, with residents urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
