Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is facing renewed calls for impeachment after it was revealed that he failed to report a real estate deal with Texas billionaire, Cary Maguire. According to The New York Times, Justice Thomas failed to accurately disclose his wife’s income from the sale of a condominium owned by Maguire in 2019. This is not the first time Justice Thomas has faced controversy over his financial dealings. In 2020, ProPublica reported that he had sold properties to Republican donor Harlan Crow while serving on cases related to Crow’s interests.
The latest revelation has sparked further outrage among critics of Justice Thomas, with MSNBC publishing an opinion piece arguing for his impeachment. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times published a letter to the editor criticizing the notion that Thomas is a role model, stating that “an America where nothing matters” may be an accurate reflection of the current state of affairs.
The fallout from these revelations has also extended to the Supreme Court as a whole. The Dallas Morning News published an editorial calling for a reexamination of the Court’s decision-making and its ties to wealthy donors. As the issue continues to roil the country, it remains to be seen what action, if any, will be taken against Justice Thomas.
