Connecticut Man Charged in Gruesome Death of Daughter’s Bulldog

NORTH BRANFORD, CT – A Connecticut man is facing charges after he was arrested in connection with the death of his daughter’s bulldog. Arnaldo Silva, 51, was charged by North Branford Police with cruelty to animals and threatening in the second degree following a disturbing incident at his home.

Officers arrived at Silva’s residence late on the evening of November 13, following a call about a possible domestic disturbance. They were informed en route that Silva had allegedly killed the dog using an unspecified weapon at the time. Upon arrival, the scene unfolded with a gruesome discovery; a trail of blood led them from the living room to Silva’s bedroom where he was found covered in blood and exhibiting aggressive behavior. According to police, Silva seemed to be intoxicated and was uncooperative.

Medical personnel were dispatched to the scene and Silva was ultimately hospitalized at Yale New Haven Hospital. A search of his home revealed the dead 2-year-old bulldog and a bloody kitchen knife inside the dog’s kennel. The bulldog was sent for an autopsy to discern the exact cause of death.

Following the investigation, a warrant was issued for Silva’s arrest on the subsequent day, and he was taken into custody without delay. The investigation is ongoing, involving the North Branford Police Department, the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office, and East Haven Animal Control.

Officials have expressed their distress over the event. Deputy Chief James Lovelace highlighted the complexity of the challenges faced by law enforcement and praised the rapid response and commitment to community safety demonstrated by the officers. Lovelace extended his deepest sympathies to all affected by the crime and expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts in the investigation. He voiced an anticipation for a robust prosecution and a just conviction under the full scope of the law.

Silva is currently detained, with his bond set, awaiting a court appearance on November 16 at 9:00 a.m. ET.
