Crime Spree in Chicago Ends in Fatal Crash for Suspect

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – A man suspected of committing armed robberies, sexual assault, and kidnappings in Chicago was killed in a crash early Friday morning, following an overnight crime spree, authorities reported.

The crime spree began around 2:30 a.m. when the suspect entered a residential building in the 1500 block of South Wabash Avenue and held a 48-year-old woman at knifepoint before battering and sexually assaulting her. He then encountered two more women, both 27 years old, and forced all three women into a residence, where he robbed them at knifepoint. Another male victim, 27, entered the residence and was also held at knifepoint and robbed.

The suspect then forced the victims into a vehicle and robbed a restaurant, cutting a man at the scene before fleeing in the stolen vehicle. While escaping, he struck a marked Chicago police vehicle and eventually crashed in the 3000 block of South Pitney Court, causing the car to flip over. The suspect was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, while the two women inside the vehicle sustained unspecified injuries.

The 48-year-old woman managed to flee the scene and was transported to Rush Hospital in fair condition. Area detectives continue to investigate the incidents, which also involved the assault of a 36-year-old man and the robbery of a cash register at a business. No injuries were reported in connection with the business robbery.

The incidents remained under investigation, and the condition of the two women was reported to be good at the hospital.
