HUFFMAN, Texas (AP) – An investigation is currently underway following a fatal shooting that occurred outside a church in northeast Harris County on Sunday morning, according to deputies.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, shots were fired in the church’s parking lot, resulting in the death of one person. The incident began when a man with ties to the church made a concerning statement to a member, referencing the pastor. Deputies were alerted to the threat and were in pursuit of the man as he fled the scene.

As the situation unfolded, a member of the church who also works for Texas EquuSearch was made aware of what had transpired and went to the parking lot. It was there that the suspect allegedly ran towards him, prompting the church member to fire two fatal shots using a long gun, resulting in the suspect’s death at the scene.

The deceased man was reportedly arrested the day before for criminal mischief and had psychotropic medications in his truck at the time of the incident. While the shooting took place with about 50 to 70 people inside the church, no other injuries were reported.

Tim Miller, with Texas EquuSearch, stated that the church member who was involved in the shooting had reached out to him with concerns about the suspicious man. Later, the Lake Methodist Houston released a statement on Facebook, asking for prayers for the church and the families impacted by the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
