Delhi Airport Roof Collapse Kills One: Shocking Videos Show Aftermath

New Delhi, India – A tragic incident at Delhi airport has left one person dead and four others injured due to the collapse of a roof after heavy rain hammered the area. The collapse occurred at Terminal 1, with videos showing massive pillars crashing down on parked cars.

In response to the collapse, all departures from Terminal 1 have been halted, and check-in counters have been closed. The unfortunate event took place at 05:00 local time, according to authorities.

Rescue efforts are currently underway at the airport, with the injured individuals receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals. India’s aviation regulator has advised airlines to accommodate affected passengers on alternative flights or provide refunds.

The Federal Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, has pledged financial compensation to the family of the deceased individual and funds for the injured. Additionally, Kinjarapu assured the public that the situation is now under control, with inspections being conducted to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Despite criticism on social media regarding the incident, Kinjarapu clarified that the collapsed portion was not part of the newly renovated section inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March. The minister explained that the affected area was an old building opened in 2009.

The heavy rains that caused the collapse have also led to waterlogging and traffic congestion in Delhi. Videos circulating on social media depict individuals navigating knee-deep water and vehicles submerged in subways. Furthermore, flight delays and cancellations have been reported due to the torrential downpour.

The Indian meteorological department predicts continued heavy rainfall in the city throughout the weekend, exacerbating the challenges faced by residents and travelers in the region.
