Detroit – Ex-Boyfriend of Kidnapped and Killed Nurse Sentenced to Decades in Prison

DETROIT – A Detroit family had the opportunity to directly confront the killer of their loved one, a nurse who was kidnapped and killed by her ex-boyfriend. Jamere Miller, 36, was sentenced to at least 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the May killing of 29-year-old nurse, Patrice Wilson. On May 13, Wilson was kidnapped from the parking lot after a shift at Detroit Receiving Hospital, where she worked. Her ex-boyfriend, Miller, was identified as the kidnapper by police.

During Miller’s sentencing hearing, family members spoke directly to him in court. Wilson’s grandmother, Pamela Golden, expressed her unanswerable questions and pain over the crime. She passionately questioned Miller’s actions and the impact of his toxic presence on her family. The victim’s family had been vocal about their disapproval of Miller, stating that Wilson was trying to distance herself from him because he was toxic to her.

Miller’s attorney read from a prepared apology letter during the hearing, expressing remorse for the pain caused by the crime. However, the family’s pain and anger towards Miller were evident in their statements to him in court. They remembered Wilson as a beautiful soul and a loving mother, and expressed their frustration and heartbreak over the loss.

Security camera footage showed the moments leading up to Wilson’s kidnapping, and Miller was later charged with 14 counts stemming from a separate incident. His plea deal for second-degree murder resulted in the dropping of several related charges. Wilson’s family had filed a lawsuit against the Detroit Medical Center in August, claiming negligence and inadequate security at the hospital. However, DMC stood behind its security team’s handling of the situation.
