Moscow, Russia — Another night of unrest unfolded in Russia’s capital as officials reported a drone assault attributed to Ukraine, marking the second consecutive evening of such an incident. Authorities quickly imposed airspace restrictions, prompting the temporary closure of all major airports in Moscow before reopening them hours later, according to the country’s aviation authority.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced via social media that air defenses had intercepted at least 19 drones as they approached the city from various directions. He noted debris from these intercepts fell onto a crucial highway leading into the capital, yet there were no reports of injuries or fatalities from the incident.

While Ukraine has not immediately responded to the claims, the mayor of Kharkiv confirmed that Russian forces conducted drone strikes in his city and also launched attacks in the Kyiv area. In a related incident, Oleh Kiper, governor of Ukraine’s Odesa region, reported the death of one individual due to a drone strike.

Russia’s defense ministry indicated that this attack was similar to a previous incident, in which they claimed to have downed a significant number of drones overnight. Social media accounts linked to Russian military bloggers additionally hinted at damage to windows in residential buildings in southern Moscow but did not provide official confirmation.

Reports from other Russian cities, including Penza and Voronezh, confirmed that they too experienced drone activity during the night. This escalation in hostilities comes amid an ongoing pattern of Ukrainian drone operations targeting Moscow, which have intensified since Russia’s full-scale invasion began over three years ago. One of the most significant Ukrainian strikes in March resulted in three fatalities.

In the Kursk region, Russian officials reported renewed attempts by Ukrainian forces to infiltrate. Ukrainian military sources claimed to have targeted a drone command unit near the village of Tyotkino, with officials stating they had successfully struck the site.

Following Moscow’s declaration of regaining control over the Kursk area, Kyiv persists in asserting its operational presence across the border, with reports of incursions aimed at establishing a buffer zone to safeguard its territories. Meanwhile, Russian officials disclosed that an electrical substation in Rylsk sustained damage from an attack, notably injuring two teenagers due to shrapnel from the blast.

Witness accounts and unverified reports from military bloggers suggested a coordinated effort by Ukrainian forces to penetrate deeper into Russian territory. They described vehicles maneuvering past barriers and conducting offensive operations, including missile strikes against infrastructure. As tensions escalated at the border, local authorities in Sumy, Ukraine, advised residents in two settlements to evacuate, heightening the sense of urgency amid the conflict.
