WEST BEND, WI – A Wisconsin man is facing a first-degree attempted intentional homicide charge after authorities say he brutally stabbed his fiancée following a night of heavy drinking, then covered her wounds with blankets and showered before finally calling 911 for help.
Police arrested Kevin Fischer, 36, at an apartment in West Bend, a city just north of Milwaukee, after he reported the stabbing to emergency dispatchers early Sunday morning. Prosecutors say the violent encounter followed hours of alcohol consumption at the couple’s home on Saturday.
According to court documents, Fischer had been drinking since midday while his fiancée remained sober. The situation appeared ordinary at first; the woman went out to pick up food, and later, Fischer’s sister stopped by the apartment for an evening of board games.
The family gathering stretched into the night, with Fischer allegedly continuing to consume alcohol. Around midnight, after Fischer’s sister left, his fiancée said she was tired and began preparing for bed. At that point, detectives say Fischer threatened her life before attacking with a kitchen knife, delivering several severe wounds to her abdomen, hip, and thigh.
Police reports indicate that the victim, whose identity has not been released, described the attack as sudden and without warning. She told authorities that Fischer’s behavior became hostile with no apparent cause, leaving her unable to understand what provoked the violence.
Emergency dispatch received the call around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, with Fischer telling a dispatcher that he and his fiancée “got into an argument” and admitting, “I tried killing her, she’s bleeding really bad because I stabbed her.” According to the criminal complaint, the victim could be heard in the background expressing extreme pain.
The court documents detail Fischer’s statements during the 911 call and during his arrest. He allegedly explained that after the stabbing, he covered his fiancée with blankets, took a shower, and remained at the scene. He expressed mixed emotions toward the victim, stating that he did not want her to die, despite saying she had “done him wrong.”
Responding officers found Fischer at the door, clearly intoxicated and in a distressed state, authorities said. Officers noted the strong smell of alcohol, slurred speech, and uncontrollable crying. Fischer was taken into custody without incident.
Inside the apartment, police located the bleeding victim in a back bedroom, lying on her back with a blood-soaked pile of blankets on her abdomen. Investigators found a large kitchen knife nearby. The injuries were described as severe: several short, deep cuts to her thigh and hip, along with an eight-inch abdominal wound so deep that portions of her small intestine protruded from her body.
The woman was rushed to a local hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery to remove part of her intestines, according to police. Her current condition has not yet been released publicly.
Fischer appeared in court Monday to face the attempted intentional homicide charge, which carries a potential sentence of up to 60 years in prison if convicted. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for April 2, as the investigation continues.
Police have not identified any prior history of violence between Fischer and the victim, and a motive for the sudden escalation remains unclear, according to court documents.
