Ed Reed’s Negotiations to Coach Bethune-Cookman Fail: What Deion Sanders Had to Say

Former NFL star Ed Reed will not be coaching at Bethune-Cookman University after all. After 25 days of negotiations, the two sides have failed to come to an agreement on a contract and Reed has pulled out of the job.

The news has been met with mixed reactions. NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders had some strong words for Reed, saying that he should not have been so critical of the university.

“I think Ed Reed should have been more understanding of the situation,” Sanders said. “He should have known that there were certain things that the university had to take into consideration.”

Reed had been hired to take over the football program at Bethune-Cookman, but the two sides could not agree on a contract. Reed claims that the school would not ratify the contract that was agreed upon.

Yahoo Sports reported that the university had some concerns about Reed’s background and his ability to lead the team. Reed had been out of coaching for some time and the school wanted to make sure that he was the right fit for the job.

Reed will now have to look for another coaching opportunity, while Bethune-Cookman will have to start the search for a new head coach.
