Shanghai, China – A former executive faced the death penalty on Friday for the poisoning death of the founder of a Chinese gaming company linked to popular entertainment properties. Xu Yao was found guilty of poisoning Yoozoo Game founder Lin Qi in December 2020 due to disputes over company operations, according to the Shanghai First Intermediate People’s Court.
The 39-year-old Lin succumbed to the poisoning on Christmas day, while four others fell seriously ill but survived after consuming contaminated beverages in the office between September and December 2020. Xu’s motives were reportedly fueled by disagreements with two of the victims.
Yoozoo Game, based in Shanghai, initially announced Lin’s passing without specifying a cause of death.
