BOW, NH — In a dramatic incident on Saturday afternoon, an explosive crash on Interstate 93 led to the detonation of several hundred rounds of ammunition. The New Hampshire State Police reported the incident, which caused a significant disruption on one of the state’s major highways.

Reports indicate that just before 3 p.m., law enforcement received calls about a vehicle operating erratically northbound near mile marker 32.2. Later, the vehicle collided with the center median, veered across the traffic lanes, struck another motorist, and ultimately crashed off-road into trees before erupting in flames.

According to authorities, the three passengers in the errant vehicle managed to escape—one of whom was hospitalized with serious injuries, albeit non-life-threatening. The other driver involved emerged unharmed from the chaos.

The situation escalated when the vehicle’s cargo, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, began to explode due to the intense heat. For public safety, both directions of the I-93 were temporarily closed.

Firefighters at the scene took swift action to contain the blaze, which allowed for the reopening of the southbound lanes. Traffic on the northbound side was partially restored after two lanes continued to be blocked for extended cleanup and investigation efforts. By 4:40 p.m., the interstate was fully operational.

In a twist to the narrative, the state police detained one individual from the vehicle on several existing warrants, with additional charges pending as the investigation unfolds. Police also highlighted the courageous efforts of bystanders and Good Samaritans who provided assistance during the emergency.
