Miami Beach, Florida – A police chase stemming from an armed robbery ended in a tragic crash on Tuesday night, leaving the driver dead and a Miami-Dade officer injured, according to law enforcement officials. The incident, which took place earlier this week, involved a robbery in South Beach on Monday evening. Details about the robbery and subsequent crash remain limited, but authorities have detained three individuals in connection with the incident: Javarie Johnson, Christopher Barry, and Ronald Spencer. The charges they will face, if any, have yet to be determined.
The Miami Beach police swiftly alerted other law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the suspects’ vehicle after the robbery occurred. In response, a Miami-Dade police helicopter spotted a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle around 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday. However, it was not until Wednesday that Miami-Dade police clarified that the actual robbery had taken place on Monday evening, contrary to their initial statement.
As the police pursued the vehicle on Tuesday night, a passenger exited the car and assaulted a woman sitting at a nearby bus stop before fleeing the scene. The police managed to detain the passenger later on. Meanwhile, the driver of the pursued vehicle continued to elude the authorities, traveling westbound on NW 103rd Street at a high speed with the headlights turned off.
A Miami-Dade police officer traveling in the opposite direction on Northwest 103rd Street spotted the car and attempted to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, both vehicles crashed at the intersection of Northwest 103rd Street and First Avenue in Miami Shores. The officer had not activated the emergency lights on their car at the time of the collision.
The driver of the pursued vehicle, identified as Kadrian Devante Spencer, 28, was pronounced dead at Ryder Trauma Center in Jackson Memorial Hospital. Additionally, the woman who was assaulted during the incident was transported for medical evaluation of her non-life-threatening injuries. The injured officer also received medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries.
As the investigation continues, more information regarding the incident is expected to emerge. Stay tuned for further updates.
