FBI and U.S. Government Successfully Hack Ransomware Gang, Helping 300 Victims

In a major victory against cybercrime, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced that it has successfully infiltrated and taken down an international ransomware network.

The network, known as “Hive,” had been used by a notorious ransomware gang to extort victims, according to a statement from Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The FBI had been tracking the gang for some time, and was able to seize the website used by the gang to carry out its operations. The website is now displaying an FBI takeover message.

The DOJ also said it had “hacked the hackers,” using their own methods against them to help bring down the network.

The operation has resulted in the release of more than 300 victims from the ransomware gang’s grip, and the DOJ says it is continuing to investigate the gang and its activities.

The takedown of the Hive network is being hailed as a major success in the fight against cybercrime, and a reminder to criminals that the DOJ is determined to bring them to justice.
