Fentanyl Distributor Sentenced to Prison in McDowell County Case

HAVACO, WV (AP) — A 44-year-old man from McDowell County, West Virginia, has been sentenced to a year in prison followed by three years of supervised release for his involvement in a fentanyl distribution crime.

Myron Dwayne Brown, also known as “Mylo”, of Welch, admitted to selling a substance containing fentanyl to a confidential informant at a house in Havaco on February 22, 2022. He also confessed to selling controlled substances at the same location on December 29, 2021, and February 28, 2022.

During the December 29, 2021 sale, Brown was assisted by another individual, and a controlled substance confirmed to contain butonitazene, a federal Schedule I controlled substance, was sold. The announcement of Brown’s sentencing was made by United States Attorney Will Thompson, who commended the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force for their work on the investigation.

The task force, which includes members of various law enforcement agencies, played a crucial role in gathering evidence and ensuring that justice was served in this case. Brown’s actions had serious consequences, as fentanyl is a highly potent and dangerous opioid that has been responsible for numerous overdose deaths across the country.

The distribution of fentanyl and other illicit substances remains a significant concern for law enforcement agencies, and the successful prosecution of individuals like Brown sends a strong message that such criminal behavior will not be tolerated. The collaboration between different law enforcement agencies in this case highlights the importance of coordinated efforts in combating the opioid epidemic and holding those responsible for fueling it accountable.
