LOS ANGELES, CA – A veteran Southern California firefighter has been arrested after authorities say he killed his wife with an ax at their North Hollywood home, then attempted to mislead police about her whereabouts.

Andrew Jimenez, 45, was taken into custody this week on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of his wife, 55-year-old Mayra Jimenez. The incident unfolded in the early hours on Wednesday when Jimenez, who was off duty at the time, entered a police station in Glassell Park and asked officers to conduct a welfare check on his spouse, claiming he was unable to reach her.

Officers responded to the couple’s home on Satsuma Avenue in the San Fernando Valley, where they discovered Mayra Jimenez deceased inside. Law enforcement characterized the crime scene as particularly gruesome, noting that an ax was found near the victim’s body. Investigators later determined that the woman had died as a result of blunt force trauma.

After initially expressing concern for his wife’s wellbeing, Andrew Jimenez was questioned by police. According to authorities, he eventually confessed to killing her during their interview at the police station. The investigation quickly revealed that the couple, who had been married for a decade, were involved in a domestic violence incident that turned fatal.

Community members who knew the family expressed shock, describing the couple as quiet and asserting there had been no previous signs of discord. Neighbors and friends said that neither Andrew nor Mayra Jimenez showed outward indications of trouble during their years together.
