FLASH FLOODING ALERT Emergency Evacuation Orders Issued in Ruidoso, NM – Residents Urged to Seek Higher Ground ASAP

RUIDOSO, NEW MEXICO – Severe weather conditions in Ruidoso have led to flash flooding, prompting urgent evacuation orders from the village’s emergency management department. Residents in the Upper Canyon and Midtown district have been instructed through social media to quickly move to higher ground without gathering any belongings. The situation is escalating as heavy flooding impacts areas along Highway 70 in the Salt Fire burn scar, leading to evacuations as a safety measure.

The Ruidoso Office of Emergency Management has designated the White Mountain Relief Center as a shelter for those affected, located at 687 Hull Road. Additionally, the Horton Complex Gymnasium at 134 Reese Dr. is serving as an alternative shelter for individuals unable to reach the White Mountain center. The Mescalero Apache Fire Rescue has also issued alerts regarding the need for evacuations due to the adverse weather conditions.

Spokesperson Kerry Gladden of the Village of Ruidoso has communicated that evacuees have the option to seek refuge at the Red Cross Shelter at the White Mountain Relief Center.
