Florida State defeats Tennessee to advance to WCWS finals

In a nail-biting game, Florida State defeated Tennessee 2-1 to advance to the Women’s College World Series (WCWS) finals where they will face off against Oklahoma.

Florida State pitcher, Kathryn Sandercock, put on a stellar performance, allowing only one run on three hits through six innings. She was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, having pitched three complete games, giving up only three runs in 19 innings.

Tennessee’s ace pitcher, Ashley Rogers, held her own on the mound, striking out nine and giving up only two runs on five hits.

Florida State scored their first run in the top of the second inning thanks to a solo home run by Devyn Flaherty. Their second run came in the top of the sixth inning when Sydney Sherrill drove in Kaley Mudge with an RBI single.

Tennessee kept the game close, scoring their only run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kiki Milloy hit a solo home run.

With the win, Florida State advances to the WCWS finals for the third time in program history. They will face off against Oklahoma, who defeated Stanford 8-6 in their semifinal game.

The best-of-three WCWS finals will begin on Monday, June 7th.
