DAVIE, FL – Three teenagers are now behind bars in Broward County after a woman was allegedly lured from her home and violently attacked in an incident that ended with gunfire, according to police.
Authorities announced Thursday that Nawrkin Nawlyn Rivas De Los Santos, 19, and Lyrick Garcia, 19, have been charged with first-degree attempted murder with a firearm. Days earlier, police arrested Valerie Lisette Gonzalez, also 19, on attempted murder and several related charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and illegal discharge of a firearm.
The attack unfolded on June 22 in a residential neighborhood on Southwest 39th Court in Davie, a Fort Lauderdale suburb. Investigators say the assault began after the victim was contacted via Instagram by someone she recognized, who suggested they meet for a meal.
Expecting a routine outing, the woman agreed and waited at her residence until a male acquaintance arrived on foot. He told her his car was parked nearby and persuaded her to walk down the street to a light-colored sedan. As she approached the vehicle, another man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and ski mask sprang from inside and struck her in the mouth, beginning a sustained beating.
The victim recounted to police that she was repeatedly punched in the head and face, suffering injuries to her mouth, face, and neck. During the attack, a masked woman joined in. The victim said she identified Gonzalez despite her disguise due to her distinctive voice and previous encounters. Gonzalez reportedly referenced a dispute involving her “dead boyfriend” before striking the victim on the head with a handgun.
Statements from the co-defendants indicated that the brutal assault involved “pistol-whipping,” with both Garcia and Rivas De Los Santos allegedly corroborating that Gonzalez used the firearm to hit the victim.
After the initial assault, Gonzalez and another assailant allegedly stomped on the woman as she lay on the ground. According to the victim, the attack was partially recorded on a cellphone, with Gonzalez later sending her video footage of the beating.
Seizing an opportunity, the woman managed to escape and began to run. As she fled, police say Gonzalez fired a shot in her direction. One suspect later told investigators the gun was aimed at the ground, though authorities have stated that the shot appeared to be intended for the victim.
Detectives reported that the woman recognized her attackers, with whom she shared a history, including time spent in juvenile detention with Gonzalez. Investigators were also pointed to a social media account connected to Gonzalez’s deceased boyfriend, from which the initial messages had originated.
Reviewing digital communications following the incident, authorities noted that Gonzalez continued to threaten the victim, allegedly stating explicitly that she had intended to kill her and making warnings about possible future violence.
The three suspects remain in custody at Broward Main Jail without bond as the investigation continues. Police have not released the identity of the victim, and no further details regarding a court date have been made public.
