Gabby Thomas Surges Past Sha’Carri Richardson in Epic 200-Meter Showdown at U.S. Olympic Trials, Punches Ticket to Paris!

EUGENE, OR – Gabby Thomas emerged victorious in the highly anticipated 200-meter final at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for track and field, defeating Sha’Carri Richardson. Thomas clocked in at 21.81 seconds, securing her spot in the event at Paris. Richardson narrowly missed qualifying in the 200 meters but will still compete in the 100-meter race at the upcoming games.

Joining Thomas in the 200-meter event in Paris are Brittany Brown and McKenzie Long, who also set a personal best. Long, who tragically lost her mother earlier this year, emotionally expressed her joy after qualifying for the race.

In the men’s 200-meter final, Noah Lyles clinched victory with a U.S. Olympic Trials record time of 19.53 seconds. Kenny Bednarek and Erriyon Knighton will also represent the U.S. in the 200-meter event in Paris.

Reflecting on her win, Thomas, a Harvard alum, expressed her satisfaction with her performance and acknowledged the smooth and controlled nature of her run. Richardson, a Dallas native and LSU alum, who faced challenges leading up to the trials, is set to showcase her talent in the 100 meters in Paris.

The Tokyo silver medalist Raven Saunders secured her spot in the shot put event, marking her third trip to the Olympics. Other finals at the trials included the men’s and women’s 20K race walk, men’s discus, women’s long jump, women’s shot put, and women’s 10,000 meters. The trials in Eugene, Oregon, continue to be a stage for elite athletes to showcase their skills and advance to the prestigious global stage of the Olympics.
