A potential four-team trade involving the Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, and Atlanta Hawks was thrown into jeopardy after Gary Payton II failed his physical with the Warriors.
Sources close to the situation told The Athletic that Payton’s failed physical put the entire deal at risk. ESPN reported that the injury to Payton could put the entire four-team trade in jeopardy.
The trade would have sent Payton to the Warriors, James Wiseman to the Pistons, and a package of draft picks and players to the Rockets and Hawks. Detroit Free Press reported that the Pistons would have come out as the winners of the trade if Wiseman lives up to his potential.
The Warriors have not yet commented on the failed physical, but the Golden State Warriors YouTube channel posted a video of Payton’s best highlights with the team. Yahoo Sports asked if the Warriors did enough at the NBA trade deadline to win another championship.
It remains to be seen if the four-team deal will be able to move forward, but the failed physical has certainly put a wrench in the plans.
