Gas Station Shootout Ends with Surprising Sentences

OAKLAND, Calif. – The legal proceedings stemming from a fatal shootout at a local gas station in 2022 have concluded with two individuals facing differing sentences and a third woman entering a diversion program. The incident resulted in the death of 64-year-old Rodney Davis during a gun battle at a gas station located on International Boulevard in March 2022.

At the outset of the case, both Tyja Braswell, 22, and Stavon Moore, 29, were charged with the murder of Davis. However, Moore’s trial ended in acquittal, leading to negotiations for a plea deal for Braswell. The plea deal resulted in a dismissal of the murder and attempted murder charges in favor of a two-year felony probation term.

The case was marked by unexpected turns, legal disputes, and untimely deaths. Between the date of the incident and Moore’s trial, Braswell was involved in a vehicle that came under gunfire, resulting in the deaths of the driver and a key eyewitness before the trial. Braswell was arrested on murder and attempted murder charges in October 2022 and later released on a GPS monitoring program before facing attempts to have her jailed multiple times by the probation department.

Ultimately, Braswell accepted a plea deal and probation term, leading to her release and formal sentencing. Moore was sentenced to six years in prison, but will be able to reduce the sentence through good behavior. Meanwhile, another individual involved in the incident faces murder charges in connection to a separate death related to the case.

Both Braswell and Moore had tumultuous childhoods, as detailed in court paperwork, and events from their past were presented as context for their involvement in the incident. However, the legal proceedings have now come to a close, with Braswell on probation and Moore facing a prison term for his role in the deadly shootout.
