SANTA FE, New Mexico – Authorities in Santa Fe, New Mexico, are currently investigating the unexpected deaths of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, along with his wife Betsy Arakawa and their dog at their residence. The discovery was made by a maintenance worker who stumbled upon their partially mummified bodies on Wednesday.

When Santa Fe County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, they found Arakawa’s body in a bathroom with prescription pills scattered on a nearby counter. Hackman’s body was discovered in a separate room according to a search warrant filed in court. The bodies displayed signs of sudden falls and partial decomposition, with bloating in the face and mummification in the extremities.

Despite initial investigations, there were no immediate signs of foul play, carbon monoxide poisoning, or forced entry into the home. It was mentioned in the warrant that while one of their dogs was found deceased inside the house, two others were found on the property roaming around freely.

Upon receiving the distressing 911 call, deputies arrived at the couple’s residence in Santa Fe to find the front door slightly open. Hackman, Arakawa, and their dog were found inside the house. Arakawa’s body was near a space heater in the bathroom, leading to speculation that she may have fallen abruptly.

A full investigation is currently ongoing to determine the cause of death, with the state’s Office of the Medical Investigator taking the lead. The preliminary autopsy results revealed no external trauma on either of the deceased individuals.

Hackman’s daughter Leslie expressed shock and grief, stating that her father was in good health and had remained active with activities like yoga and Pilates. The authorities are still uncertain about the exact time of the couple’s passing, assuring the community of no immediate danger.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are exploring all possible angles, including the maintenance worker’s last contact with the couple, their interactions with other individuals, and the condition of the household when the bodies were discovered.
