LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – A Georgia man is facing serious charges following a fatal shooting that occurred after a workplace dispute in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant, according to police.
Michael Allen Todd, 40, was taken into custody without incident by Gwinnett County Police after allegedly shooting his employee, Donald Stewart, 43, on Feb. 19.
Authorities indicated that an argument about their place of employment culminated in the gunfire, leading to Todd being charged with multiple felonies, including malice murder.
The confrontation between Todd and Stewart unfolded at a McDonald’s on Sugarloaf Parkway around noon. Despite the incident’s location, police clarified that neither individual had any professional ties to the fast-food establishment, and the argument did not pertain to it. The specifics of their employment remain undisclosed.
Officers responding to reports of the shooting discovered Stewart with a gunshot wound. Stewart was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Todd, who stayed at the scene, cooperated with investigators before being arrested.
Authorities have not released detailed information about the nature of the dispute, aside from its link to their work environment. Police emphasized that the shooting appears to be an isolated event, with no other involved parties.
Following his arrest, Todd was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail. He faces a range of charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, malice murder, felony murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Bail has not been granted.
This incident underscores a tragic end to what appears to have been a significant workplace disagreement. As the investigation continues, police have not announced any new developments or additional arrests.
