Houston Man Kills Father, Leads School Cop on Deadly Chase

HOUSTON, TX – Law enforcement in Houston reported Thursday that an armed suspect who allegedly shot and killed his own father lead authorities on a dangerous chase, involving a school officer and multiple carjackings, before being fatally shot.

According to Houston police, the tense sequence of events started around 7:10 a.m. in a residential neighborhood, when a woman called police after her son shot his father following an argument and then fled the scene. When police arrived at the house on Mona Lee Lane, the father was found deceased.

The suspect, a 30-year-old male, was seen running towards Buffalo Creek Elementary School shortly thereafter. The school district’s police were notified about an individual trying to gain access to vehicles at around 7:20 a.m.

A Spring Branch ISD police officer engaged the suspect, who eluded capture initially, stole a car, and collided with two other vehicles, including a school bus, in his flight. The suspect exited this vehicle and subsequently hijacked another car.

The officer continued the pursuit, which ended after the suspect drove to a dead-end near a crane company and attempted to escape on foot. Cornered, the suspect fired a shot at the officer, prompting the officer to shoot back, striking the suspect multiple times. The suspect was declared dead at the scene, while the officer was unharmed.

Spring Branch ISD confirmed that the suspect had attempted to gain entry into the elementary school during the incident. However, due to strict safety protocols, all doors were securely locked, preventing any potential threat to the students and staff inside.

The series of events left the community on edge, with school safety procedures and protocol scrutiny coming to the fore. Further investigation into the suspect’s motives and a detailed account of the chase are ongoing.
