Residents of Houston, Texas are reeling after a powerful tornado and severe storms left a path of destruction in their wake.
According to the Weather Channel, the tornado touched down in Houston on Saturday, January 23rd and was accompanied by powerful storms. The damage is being described as “catastrophic” by local officials.
KHOU 11 reported that the tornado caused significant damage to homes and businesses in the area, as well as to the city’s animal shelter. Video footage of the storm damage has been circulating on social media.
FOX 26 Houston reported that the storms are expected to continue through Sunday, and that the National Weather Service has issued several watches and warnings for the area.
Pasadena Mayor Jeff Wagner told 12NewsNow that the tornado destroyed homes and “devastated” the city’s animal shelter. He said it was “terrifying” to witness the storm’s destruction.
