MEMPHIS, TN – A Memphis man is facing serious charges after police allege he orchestrated a plot to kill his wife by having her car set on fire while she was inside.

Authorities say Travis Davison, 44, was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder following an incident that occurred on the evening of July 30 along the 800 block of South Second Street. According to investigators, Davison coordinated with his alleged accomplice and girlfriend, Jessica Rios, 39, and another individual who has not been identified, to carry out the act.

Investigators allege that, while on a phone call, Davison and Rios gave directions to an accomplice regarding the location of the victim’s silver Chevrolet Camaro. Police say Rios specifically identified the vehicle and the only silver Camaro on the street, helping guide the attackers to their target.

Police reports state that the accomplice arrived at the scene in a silver SUV, accompanied by others driving a BMW and a gold sedan. The suspects allegedly poured gasoline over the victim’s Camaro as she sat in the driver’s seat. Law enforcement says Davison was heard loudly encouraging the accomplice on the call, instructing them to ignite the car.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the vehicle erupted in flames. A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said that she and her daughter witnessed the aftermath and quickly called emergency services. The neighbor recounted seeing the victim escape the burning vehicle through the passenger window just before the flames intensified.

Officials say that the wife, whose name has not been released, managed to escape unharmed. Police records indicate that she realized the car was being set on fire and acted swiftly to save her own life. Authorities believe that had she not exited the vehicle as fast as she did, she could have suffered fatal injuries.

According to the victim, all those involved appeared to be communicating via Bluetooth phone calls through their cars’ stereo systems, coordinating the attack in real-time. The investigative documents note that the suspects acknowledged the victim’s presence but continued with the plan regardless, further endangering her life.

Davison and his wife had reportedly been married for close to six years at the time of the incident. In addition to attempted second-degree murder, Davison also faces charges of attempted reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. Rios has been charged with attempted murder as well.

The identity of the individual who physically set the fire remains unknown, and police have not announced any further arrests in connection with the case. The investigation is ongoing as authorities search for additional suspects and gather more evidence.

No injuries were reported among the bystanders or responding officers. Memphis police urge anyone with information about the incident or the suspects involved to come forward as the search continues for those responsible.
