CARROLLTON, Ga. – Authorities have identified “Baby Jane Doe” 35 years after her body was found in a wooded area in Georgia. The body was identified as newborn Melanie Diane Gilmore, who was born in 1988. Her mother and another individual have been charged with murder in connection with her death.
This identification comes after years of investigation and technological advancements. The Carrollton Police Department, along with help from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, used DNA testing and forensic genealogy to identify the victim.
Police have charged the baby’s mother, Jeannette L. Thomas, and another individual named as the baby’s father, James Michael Gilmore Jr. with felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children.
Authorities are planning to further investigate this case and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
