Indiana County Police Identify Suspect in Campus Incident: Officer Fires Shot at Masked Knife-Wielding Individual

Indiana, PA – The suspect involved in an officer-involved incident at Indiana University of Pennsylvania has been identified, according to state police. The incident occurred on Sunday, when 19-year-old Cameron Raubaugh allegedly called 911 to report a robbery in the parking lot of George P. Miller Stadium.

Upon arriving at the scene, the responding officer encountered a masked suspect who was wielding a knife. The suspect allegedly charged at the officer, leading to the officer firing one round from his gun. However, the suspect was able to knock the officer to the ground and flee the scene.

Fortunately, a responding state trooper was able to apprehend the suspect, later identified as Raubaugh. During questioning, Raubaugh admitted to making the false 911 call because he was “depressed” and wanted to be killed by police. He claimed that he did not intend to harm the officer.

Raubaugh has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and false reports. He is currently being held at the Indiana County Jail, with his bail denied in order for him to undergo a mental health evaluation.

Authorities have confirmed that there is no threat to the public or the Indiana University of Pennsylvania community, as no other suspects are believed to be involved. State police are continuing to investigate the incident, withholding the release of the suspect’s identity.

This incident highlights the challenges that law enforcement officers face when responding to emergency calls, as they must evaluate the credibility of the information received. The case also underscores the importance of providing proper mental health support services to individuals in distress, to prevent them from resorting to dangerous actions.
